General Discussion / What if Ajith and Vijay acted in Thani Oruvan?
« on: August 29, 2015, 01:29:11 AM »
I Just watched Thani Oruvan.  It is definitely one of the best movies released this year.  Director Raja has come with a bang after almost 3 years.  He has proved his caliber in his first straight movie Thani Oruvan. Even though there are few flaws in the film, over all it is a perfectly packed mind game thriller. Ravi has done a commendable job. Arvind Swamy steals the show for sure.  I use to tell my friends earlier that Arvind Swamy and thala Ajith are the only two actors in kollywood who looks class.  But no one accepted it.  Now after seeing Thani Oruvan, they agree with me.

Anyway let me share what i feel after seeing the film.  I feel that it would have been a greatest ever hit in the cinema industry if Vijay has done ravi's role and Ajith has done Arvind Swamy's role. But the climax should be changed a bit.  The climax should have been left open-ended leaving a guess for the audience.  In this film, both ravi and arvind swamy has got equal importance.  Only in the climax, the hero wins in this film.  But if ajith and vijay has done it, the climax should also be treated equal.

Can you just imagine?  Both ajith and vijay fans will flood the cinema halls at least for 50 days.  I feel this is the best script for Viay and Ajith to act together.

Hope at least some day they will act together in a script like this.

Note: I do not degrade Ravi or Arvind Swamy. They have done their job perfectly.  But the mass image of Vijay and Ajith would have made this film even bigger if they acted on it.

The movie starts with Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan) carrying a baby and drowning in
to the river at foothills of mountain and the tribal villagers rescue the baby.  Rohini takes care of the baby and brings him up. The baby grows up as Sivudu (Prabhas).  He has the habit of climbing up the tall mountains surrounding his place.  One fine day he meets Avanthika (Tamannah) on top of the mountain and the rest forms the crux of the film.  The film ends incomplete giving a note that a sequel is on the way by 2016.  Revealing anything beyond this may be a spoiler.  Better rush to the nearest cinema hall to enjoy the grand show by Rajamouli.

Positive Points:

Second half
Visual effects in the second half
Performance by the main leads - Prabhas and Rana
Daggubati
Performance by Sathyaraj, Naasar
and Ramya Krishnan
Cinematography byK.K. Senthil Kumar
Art Work by Sabu Cyril

Negative Points:

Slow first half
Unwanted Songs
Unwanted Glamour in the song
Item song in the second half
Poor Visual Effects and Graphics in the First Half
Poor Songs
Average Background Score
Predictable Story
Poor Performance by Tamannah

What is excellent in Bahubali?

Stunning visuals and the CG work in the second half is top notch. Especially the war scene is Superb. Rajamouli proved his caliber yet again in this film.  The visual effects in the second half match up to hollywood standards.

What changes would have made the film even better?

1) Tamannah is the wrong choice.  The character doesn't suit her image.  Should have assigned some other actress for Avanthika role.
2) I don't know why Rajamouli is not willing to assign some other renowned music composers like Illayaraja or AR Rahman for his films.  If Illayaraja or AR Rahman have done music for this film, the film would have been lifted to another level.  I feel the music in this film is just average.  The background scores are not effective.  Never had any feeling while watching the film.  For these kind of period films, music plays a major role.  But in this film, music is a big let down.
3) Songs are unwanted for this film.  Just to please few telugu audience, i think the director has included glamour and songs in the film. The CG work on first song with Tamannah is awful. Even the item song in the second half is a third loo break.
4) Could have focused more on the story.
5) Should have trimmed the first half and made it more gripping.

Over all Verdict:

Sheer brilliance seen on the second half makes us forget all the flaws and enjoy the film completely.  Rajamouli has done a commendable job and made all indians proud. Over all it is a movie that can be enjoyed for its visuals. Book your tickets immediately if you have not watched the film yet.
